‘THE PROVOKED WIFE’

Performances April 12-28, 2012

Important information for anyone intending to audition

‘The Provoked Wife’, directed by Norman MacCallum,  requires a cast of eight actors and a couple of musicians. Rehearsals will begin shortly after the auditions have been held. The production will be performed in English.

Rehearsals will be spread over January, February and March, 2012 and, in essence, rehearsal days and hours will be flexible. Please note that preference will be given to those actors who are available to rehearse during the day on weekdays.There will also be some evening and weekend rehearsals but please be aware that you will be required to rehearse during the day.

Performance dates in 2012 are Thursdays through Saturdays on April 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 at Estrela Hall at 9.30pm with a matinee performance on 22 April. Time of the matinee to be confirmed.

About the play

Written by Sir John Vanbrugh, and first performed in the Spring of 1697, this Restoration Comedy deals with themes of marital infidelity, scheming flirtation, sexual shenanigans, intrigue,  revenge, misogyny, abusive relationships  and ill-advised coupling. The play is full of witty observations on seventeenth century society which, three hundred years later, contemporary audiences will find fitting, funny and full of wisdom.

ACTORS

Auditions will be held on Thursday 19th January 2012 at Estrela Hall, Rua da Estrela, Lisbon 1200-699. Please arrive at 7pm and be available until 9.15pm. Please wear loose clothing.  You should be able to speak and take direction in English. There is no need to contact the Lisbon Players if you intend to audition. Simply come along on the evening.

MUSICIANS

If you can play the violin, the guitar or the flute, please come with your instrument to the audition for actors and be prepared to play.
