Talking
Heads' by Alan Bennett
'Talking Heads' by Alan Bennett
was staged in May/ June 2002.
Here is
the Press Release, sent to the Portuguese media (translated from
the Portuguese):
'Talking
Heads' (Cabeças Falantes!), by
Alan Bennett, at the Lisbon Players .
Written originally for television,
'Talking Heads' comprises a collection of 12 monologues that have
thrilled audiences, listeners and lovers of theatre since they first
appeared in the 80s.
In each piece, a character tells
their side of a story: through their words, or despite them, we
we get a glimpse of the truth. They show wisdom, madness, disgust,
pain and joy, and Bennett's observations bite deep into suburban
England. But a dark force reveals neurotic, even aberrant behaviour
and suggests the inability of the Welfare State to respond appropriately.
Alan Bennett is one of the best
loved and most widely acclaimed English writers. His scripts for
TV, plays, diaries and commentaries are keenly awaited by his army
of fans, and today many of his pieces are part of school and university
curricula in Britain.
The Lisbon Players present five
of the monologues, with a cast made up of some of its most experienced
and talented actors: Celia Bochman, Amanda Booth, Simon Mount, Adrienne
Thomas and Jonathan Weightman.
The pieces are directed by Jon
Kvaal Pederson and George Ritchie.
Performances are, as always,
on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 9 p.m. from May 16th to June
1st, 2002. |
