CABARET
THE MUSICAL
Music by John Kander
Lyrics by Fred Ebb
Book by Joe Masteroff

BERLIN 1930
The action of this thrilling and moving piece of musical theatre
is set in a sleazy Berlin night-club against the background of the
ominous and doomed world of pre-war Germany as Hitler and the Nazi
party rise to power.
Based on the Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood it gives us
a photographic glimpse of the declining days of the Weimar Republic
as seen through the eyes of the night-club singer Sally Bowles and
the writer Cliff Bradshaw who have both ended up in Berlin at this
crucial point in world history.
The Lisbon Players’ theatre becomes the Kit Kat Klub: on stage
are the orchestra and the boys and girls of the chorus. The Klub
becomes the principal metaphor of the show which is, as Sam Mendes
said “ …about the central mystery of the twentieth century
– how Hitler could have happened”
Directed and designed by Jonathan Weightman
with choreography by Keith Esher Davis, musical direction by Kátia
Santandreu and costumes by Vivi Silveira the cast includes Catarina
Wallenstein, James Warner, Helena Afonso, Jon Pedersen, Grant Shepherd
and Helena Bandeira.
The production opens on March 9th and there
will be performances at 9.30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
until Saturday April 1st at Rua da Estrela, 10.
